Ah, the transience of theatre. It seems only yesterday that Allison and I stood in front of our Shrew audience,  announcing our summer show. And now here we are, our summer show already come and gone.

CityShakes’ free, outdoor production of As You Like It closed this past Saturday, and boy did this cast go out with a bang.

Boys of AYLI

Jacques Freydont (Duke Senior) – Colin Martin (Jaques) – Mark Holzum (Silvius) – Nik Roybal (Touchstone)

Thank you to all those who came to see the show – we hope you enjoyed yourselves. This past weekend, we welcomed about 80 adults, children, and dogs – there was a lot of laughter during, and much mingling afterward.

Michelle Lukiman (Phoebe) – Hayley Brown (Audrey) – Greg Barnett (Corin)

And thank you to those who supported this production – we received so many generous donations directly, via our Indiegogo campaign, and at the performances. We really feel the support of our community, and we plan to keep returning the favor by bringing authentic, intimate theatrical experiences straight to your neighborhood.

Mary Ellen Schneider (Celia) – Goran Ozanic (Oliver) – Allison Volk (Rosalind) – Theo Salter (Orlando)

And finally, let’s give a big round of e-applause to our talented, dedicated, spirited cast of eleven. They make me look so good.

If you saw As You Like It, we’d love to hear from you! What surprised you? What delighted you? What confused you? Drop us a line at cityshakes@gmail.com.

We at CityShakes are already itching to dive into Macbeth. Casting, script-cutting, and space-securing are all well under way. But for this weekend at least, Allison and I are going on vacation – like, actually. We’re headed down to San Diego this weekend to catch some Shakespeare at the Old Globe, soak up some sun on the beach, and probably find ourselves unable to resist the temptation to work. But really, how can we even call it work when it’s so much fun?

‘Til next week,

Brooke
