CityShakes Presents An Emerging Director Production:

Anton Chekhov’s

The Cherry Orchard

Translated by Michael Henry Heim

Directed by Mallin Alter

The 1% confronts the 99%…in turn of the century Russia. An aristocratic Russian family down on their luck is shocked when a former servant (who has done well in the world) returns and offers to buy their property. Power roles are reversed and the world is turned upside down as the family faces the new reality. Based on a recent translation by the late UCLA professor, Michael Henry Heim, this new production is amazingly relevant as the United States today confronts a new economic reality.
